In 1949, Meiko Kaiun
(Meiko Trans Co., Ltd.) was founded in Nagoya, Japan. Little did
that small group of entrepreneurs realize what was in store. Though
Meiko America did not incorporate until 1973, our first experience
in the United States actually dates back to 1970 when Meiko and
two other firms joined together as co-owners to develop a small
distribution company in Seattle, Washington. While the Seattle operation
was first established at the bequest of Honda Motor Company, it
did not take long for Meiko to begin providing U.S. based distribution
services for other companies headquartered in the Far East. By 1973,
when Meiko America officially incorporated, we were providing services
for a variety of U.S. and foreign-based companies in Seattle, Oakland
and Long Beach.
By the end of our first
decade, New Jersey and Chicago operations were added to provide
logistics services from those metropolitan areas. During the 1980's,
Houston, Dallas, New York, Columbus, Ontario and Memphis also saw
operations opened to support our growing customer base.
Today, Meiko continues
providing both traditional and unique services across the country.
Meiko America, Inc. and our wholly owned subsidiary, Meiko Freight
Service, Inc., continue to provide a wide range of traditional and
not-so-traditional services for customers across the U.S. Meiko
America, Inc. also has financial interest in and partial ownership
of Transloading Terminal Partners, L.P. (our facility investment
group), American Trinet, Trinet Logistics Mexico and Meiko Trans
Canada, which has operations in both Toronto and Vancouver.
